Tucked away on North Congress Avenue, with a public playground just steps away, is a center quietly doing extraordinary work for Delray Beach’s senior community. The Volen Center provides daytime care and engaging activities for seniors living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other neurocognitive disorders—offering not just supervision, but a safe, vibrant, and stimulating environment.
Open Monday through Friday, the center offers far more than traditional adult daycare. Each day is filled with programs designed to engage both body and mind. From lively entertainment and sing-alongs to gentle exercise and dancing, there’s always something happening. Seniors can enjoy games like trivia, bingo, and Jeopardy-style competitions, along with arts and crafts projects such as card-making and beadwork. The goal is to spark joy and preserve cognitive functions, something that’s harder to do when seniors remain isolated at home.
Importantly, it’s clear the seniors are enjoying themselves. Laughter, music, and movement are all part of a typical day at The Volen Center, making it as much a place for enrichment as it is for care. And while these programs provide vital respite support for caregivers, the real win is the potential to slow cognitive decline through consistent, meaningful engagement.
But the Volen Center's work in Delray doesn’t stop at its front doors.
In partnership with the City of Delray Beach, the Volen Center has been helping feed the community’s older residents through a meal site at Pompey Park. Since 2013, they’ve served thousands of nutritious lunches to seniors aged 60 and over—building community as well as providing nourishment. Meals are served Monday through Thursday and open to seniors enrolled in programs or living in the surrounding neighborhood.
This June, a new Grab-and-Go Dinner Program launched at Pompey Park. This thoughtful initiative will allow seniors to conveniently pick up a week’s worth of chilled, ready-to-reheat dinners—supporting both nutrition and independence.
These impactful services are made possible thanks to the generosity and commitment of The Volen Center, the Area Agency on Aging of Palm Beach/Treasure Coast, Inc., and the State of Florida Department of Elder Affairs.
From Broward to Palm Beach County, the Volen Center delivers a broad range of senior services—life enrichment programs, adult day care, transportation, home health care, and meals. Their reach is wide, but their heart is right here in Delray Beach.
