Where do you source your Delray Beach updates?
In the absence of a dedicated Delray Beach newspaper, many of our residents and voters receive news updates through emails that find their way to our Inboxes. However, it's crucial to discern whether the information they contain is trustworthy.
We urge you to consider the following:
Does the email or news bulletin originate from an identifiable source with clear information about its writers and board members? Or is it disseminated by an anonymous entity without any accountable author, editor, or representative?
Is there evidence of interviews or input from newsmakers on subjects of discussion providing a balanced perspective? Or are the contents limited to hearsay, opinion and speculation?
Before accepting the validity of what you read, ensure that it is crafted by identifiable and credible writers or organizations. Should you come across an email or newsletter lacking author attribution, be skeptical. This anonymity often implies the information could be misleading or, at best, a mixture of half-truths. We recommend treating such sources and content with caution and consider deleting and unsubscribing.
One such anonymous group has been teeing off on Friends of Delray with regularity. They check every one of the boxes outlined above. Be wary. Anyone who doesn’t have the veracity and courage of their convictions to sign their name should be treated with skepticism.
In a way, we are flattered. We know that our presence in the public square; interviews with thought leaders; and work registering voters, is bothering these anonymous gadflies. We are proud of our work and prouder still to be supported by a long list of community leaders and supporters who have served this town admirably for many years.
